The Japanese Blood Grass has to be one of the most dramatic of ornamental grasses, but to get the best out of it in growth and colour it needs a sunny position where not too dry as roots are quite shallow, spreading but seldom invasive. Slender flexible blades slowly reach 30 45cm. during spring and summer growth, and equally gradually the leaves from the tips become suffused with crimson red until late summer and early autumn when they seem to be on fire. In spring shoots appear late consider as I have done at Bressingham, creating a river of red with this amazing grass.
