A native species, the Blackthorn hedge plant has profuse white flowers on bare black stems in April, followed by small, dark green leaves on the spiny stems and blue sloes in autumn. It's used as the main component of a mixed native hedge for wetter soils or if Hawthorn is the main component, then generally Blackthorn is added in to the mixture. It's use is very popular because of its early flowering and profuse flowering period. Despite its name, it's not terribly thorny. Produces white flowers. Growing 40 60cm or 60 90cm per year. Supplied in 2 litre pots.
