Common and well known it may be but Verbena bonariensis deserves a place in every garden so long as there is border space to plant it. It's relaibly hardy and very easy to grow and seeds freely so, once established provides a plentiful source of free plants! The little effort involved to keep it in check is well worth it the reward is one of the best plants around to add structure to the border and attract a host of pollinating insects to the garden.
